Basquiat x Banksy at the Hirschhorn

We managed to catch this exhibit at the Hirschhorn on October 26, 2024 before it ended. The first picture is the original Basquiat. A man and his dog, exuberant with bright colors.

The second is Banksy's reinterpretation. Basquiat's man is being apprehended, a throwback to the unpopular stop and frisk policy in NYC, or maybe a harbinger of what's to come. The colors and life have been removed, and setting is concrete brutalism. A stark and depressing contrast to what came before.

Any time I go to the Hirschhorn, I try to visit this piece.
